Electrolysis remains the only proven method for permanent hair removal (as approved by the British Medical Association). Electrolysis involves inserting a fine needle into the hair follicle of the skin, targeting the hair root. An electrical current is then passed down the needle to destroy the root and the hair tweezed out.

There are three methods of electrolysis: Thermal, Galvanic and Blend. The Blend method combines both and is regarded the most effective.

Hair growth works in a cycle. This consists of three phases: The Anagen Phase, Catagen Phase, and Telogen Phase.

The Anagen phase is an active phase. Hair targeted by electrolysis during this phase will be destroyed.

The Catagen phase is a transitional phase. Hair targeted by electrolysis during this phase will re-grow, but will be weaker where it has been damaged.

Finally, the Telogen phase is the dormant phase. Hair targeted by electrolysis during this phase will not be permanently affected, and re-grow.

Electrolysis can be uncomfortable, depending on the area to be treated and the clients pain threshold. Skin reactions (such as redness or bumps) will be temporary and subside. Sometimes swelling may occur on those areas that have been intensively treated - again such side-effects will be temporary.
